New Research Collaboration Network

The NSF is funding a new Research Collaboration Network that is highly relevant for the Climate Informatics community.
Title: EarthCube RCN IS-GEO: Intelligent Systems Research to Support Geosciences
PI: Suzanne Pierce, UTexas at Austin
The RCN already has over 30 members, many from the CI community, namely all the participants of last year's IS-GEO workshop.

Grand Challenges - World Climate Research Programme

The World Climate Research Programme maintains a list of Grand Challenges in the area of climate science, with excellent explanations, references, etc.
Check it out for yourself: https://www.wcrp-climate.org/grand-challenges/grand-challenges-overview
We hope this list might inspire new research, e.g. for researchers in the data sciences to work with climate scientists to try out some data-driven approaches.

Faculty Position - applied atmospheric science and employing computational, geospatial, or modeling approaches

The Department of Environmental Science in the College of Arts & Sciences at American University in Washington DC invites applications for a full-time, tenure-line position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor beginning August 1, 2017.

We are particularly interested in those working in applied atmospheric science and employing computational, geospatial, or modeling approaches. Candidates must possess their Ph.D. at the time of application and those with active external funding will be the most competitive.

Intelligent and Information Systems for Geosciences - Workshop Report

The final report for the NSF Workshop on Intelligent and Information Systems for Geosciences is now available at http://is-geo.org/home/report/ .
This report was presented to NSF program directors from both CISE and GEO on Oct 19, 2015, and was very well received.
